“LOGO”
FROM THE NEWS ARCHIVES (2020):
CBC renews Dragon’s Den for 2020. Carter Hales Design Lab to remain unfamous.
There are no famous graphic designers. There are legends within the industry, but for every Sagmeister or Scher there are thousands of designers who, in obscurity, create the logos and album covers and digital and packaging you interact with every day.
Other artistic and design fields? Loaded with stars. Gehry, Starck, RuPaul, Ramsay, Ford, Engels, Nigella, Banksy, Wearstler.
Koons.
But graphic designers? As paparazzied as a dental convention.
So who were we to think we would change all that, that we could dare to expose the dark alchemy of graphic design for all to witness, and to assume our spot among the creative tastemakers?
In 2019, Carter Hales teamed with Jason Keel and Jovan Harmuth to produce the sizzle and pilot for a series called Logo, intended to give viewers a backstage pass into the machinations of a graphic design agency.
But before CBC had the chance to option it and probably cancel Dragons Den or maybe even Hockey Night in Canada, 2020 ended the project, sparing at least one lucky CBC program its prime time slot.
Here’s a peek of what could have been.
(You dodged a bullet, Arlene. And fuck you, Banksy.)
