This is the story of two established Vancouver-based law firms deciding to join forces. One specializing in civil litigation and one with a focus on family law, the new Vancouver-based law firm came together to become Virgin Hickman.
Challenge and Opportunity
With the exciting news of the merger between Mark Virgin and Carol Hickman, came the need to develop a visual brand identity and website that fully captured the experience of working with Virgin, Hickman, and their collective team. As the two principals bring their own personality and offering to the table, while being united by the same mission and values that make up the firm’s identity, as a branding agency this was an exciting opportunity to create a brand that expressed those qualities.
During Discovery we guided Virgin Hickman in a process that resulted in the articulation of their new tagline: conviction, commitment, compassion. The tagline and the reason behind each word influenced our creative concepts and the selected concept to move forward with.
We knew that Virgin Hickman aims to embody the qualities of what makes the best lawyer to represent civil litigation and family law cases: sharp and intelligent to get results, along with being a trustworthy guide and counsel to lean on during difficult times.
The resulting visual identity is multi-layered. First, a monogram consisting of “V” for Virgin and an “H” for Hickman. The acute triangle is keen and confident, while the subtle curves provide the right amount of human approachability. When combined, it’s an iconic mark, distinguishing Virgin Hickman from other law firms of the same high caliber. Then, the wordmark which is sophisticated and exudes credibility. Finally, the colour palette discards the dated notions of stuffy lawyer offices, introducing a modern and fresh palette that balances a sense of friendliness and warmth with a strong tone of professionalism, which mirrors the essence of the Virgin Hickman team.
